Statement on the closure of Carefree Kids

It is with regret that I have to announce that Carefree Kids will not be able to resume our therapeutic services when schools restart this September. This was a difficult decision for myself and my fellow trustees to make but, having made huge efforts to improve the financial position of the charity, we have come reluctantly to the conclusion that we now need to wind up our operations.

We will ensure that we do this with all appropriate governance and in line with CFK’s supportive ethos. While this is a sad day for everyone associated with Carefree Kids, we are very proud of everything that the charity has achieved over the past 15 years.

We are hugely grateful for the vital contribution of volunteers, staff, trustees, schools, fundraisers, supporters and funding bodies, as well as to the vision of our founder Ros Kane.

The need to support the mental health and emotional well being of local children, teenagers and their parents and carers has clearly not gone away. We will focus our efforts in the next two months on helping the young people, schools and parents we have been supporting to find alternative provision and on leaving a legacy to help others build on our work.
